At K频道短视频, we believe a good education is about more than developing skills our students already have. Instead, it鈥檚 about giving them the space to try new things and discover what they are truly passionate about.

Our Co-Curricular programme is designed to encourage all students to 鈥榟ave a go鈥. We know that participation from everyone is central to a successful school, regardless of ability or experience.鈥Mr Todd Wells, Director of Co-Curriculum

Our co-curricular offering at K频道短视频 is a key part of our difference, complementing academic pursuits, strengthening our community and maintaining School traditions. Our extensive on and off-site facilities provide plenty of opportunities to step out of the box.

Athletics

The K频道短视频 Secondary Athletics Team won the Rockhampton District Athletics Carnival for the 18th consecutive year in 2021.

Available to: Primary and Secondary students.

Training: Athletics training takes place in Terms 2 and 3.

Carnivals: K频道短视频 Primary and Secondary School Athletics Carnivals are held at the School in Term 2. School representatives are then chosen to compete at the Rockhampton District Athletics Carnival. Successful students at the Rockhampton District championships have the opportunity to compete at the Capricornia Region, Queensland and Australian championships.

Art Club

The School鈥檚 Art Club aims to create a fun atmosphere where students can gather after school to experience art in its many forms. The Art Club provides a range of activities depending on student interest.

Available to: Secondary students only

Meetings: The Art Club meets each week on Wednesday afternoons.

Australian Rules

Available to: Primary (Friday Afternoon Sport) and Secondary students.

Training:
Primary: Training for Friday Afternoon Sport takes place after school on Thursday鈥檚.

Secondary: Teams will train once per week after school.

Competitions:
Primary: Australian Rules can be played by Year 5 & 6 students at Friday Sport from February - May.

Secondary: Australian Rules Inter-School competitions are available for both boys and girls. The boys play in the Capricornia Gold Coast Suns Cup in Term 1 and the girls play in Term 2.

Basketball

Available to: Primary (Friday Afternoon Sport) and Secondary students.

Training:
Primary: Training for Friday Afternoon Sport takes place after school on Thursday鈥檚.

Secondary: Teams will train once per week after school.

Competitions:
Primary: Year 5 & 6 students can play Inter-School basketball for Friday Sport in September and October.

Secondary: The Boys and Girls Junior and Senior Competitions are played after school on a Tuesday afternoon. The girls鈥 competition is played in Term 1 and the boys鈥 competition is held in Term 2.

Cadets

The K频道短视频 Cadets aim for students to achieve integrity, initiative, courage and leadership. The training involves infantry minor tactics and drills to help the students gain a perspective of life in the Army.

Available to: Secondary students only

Training: Military Cadets parade two nights a week from 5:30pm to 7.30pm. Cadets participate in one field camp each term and parade all year round.

Cattle Show Team

Students in the Show Cattle team are taught how to prepare and show cattle (both stud cattle and led steers), as well as instructed on competing in junior judging (stud and commercial beef cattle) and junior parading competitions. K频道短视频 has achieved back-to-back wins in the Schools Team Judging competition at Beef Week, as well as being crowned School Champions for the sixth consecutive year at the Rockhampton Show.

Available to: Secondary students only

Training: The Show Cattle Team trains at the K频道短视频 Port Curtis Road Farm on Monday and Thursday afternoons.

Competitions: The K频道短视频 Show Cattle Team compete at local district shows across Central Queensland throughout the year. Students can also qualify to represent the School at Beef Australia (every three years) and EKKA (annually) in Brisbane.

Chess

Students of all ages and abilities are welcome to play Chess at K频道短视频. Playing Chess helps students learn cognitive skills, patience and thoughtfulness.

Available to: Primary and Secondary students.

Training:
Primary: Chess is played socially during lunch breaks on Monday鈥檚 and Thursday鈥檚.

Secondary: Chess is played socially each Wednesday morning, during the extended morning tea break at School.

Competitions: There are three Inter-School competitions throughout the year. The winning team of the Term 3 tournament is invited to play in the State Championships held in Brisbane during Term 4.

Cricket

Available to: Primary and Secondary students.

Training:
Primary: Students who play in a team for the K频道短视频 Cricket Club will train once per week in Terms 4 and 1. Training for Friday Afternoon Sport takes place after school on Thursday鈥檚.

Secondary: Depending on level, teams will train once or twice per week after school during Terms 4 and 1 (boys) or Term 3 (girls).

Competitions:
Primary (Club): Primary students who compete for the K频道短视频 Cricket Club in the Rockhampton Cricket Inc. Competition will play on Saturday鈥檚 in Terms 4 and 1.

Primary (Friday Afternoon Sport): Year 5 & 6 students can play Inter-School cricket for Friday Sport in Term 4.

Secondary: The Rockhampton Cricket Inc. Competition is played on Saturday鈥檚 in Terms 4 and 1. The Secondary Schoolgirls Competition takes place in Term 3.

Cross Country

Available to: Primary and Secondary students.

Training: Cross Country training takes place in Terms 1 and 2.

Carnivals: The School鈥檚 Inter-House Cross Country Carnival is held at Rockhampton鈥檚 Rugby Park at the end of Term 1. Both Primary and Secondary students compete in this event, from Prep to Year 12. Successful Secondary students in their respective age divisions then compete in the Rockhampton District Cross Country Carnival in Term 2 and if successful, can progress to Capricorn Regional trials followed by State Championships.

Dance (DMTA)

K频道短视频 Dance and Musical Theatre Academy (DMTA) is an exciting programme that operates outside school hours from state-of-the-art studios on the main School campus.

Available to: All K频道短视频 and non-K频道短视频 students from 3 years of age.

Rehearsals: Depending on age and genre, rehearsals take place after school each day and on Saturday鈥檚.

Competitions and Performances: Students at the Academy perform at local eisteddfods and alternate between a Musical and Presentation Showcase each year. Academy students also have the opportunity to be involved in examinations, seminars and workshops throughout the year.

Duke of Edinburgh

The Duke of Edinburgh Award is an international award programme that presents young people with balanced, non-competitive and voluntary activities that encourage personal discovery and growth, self-reliance, perseverance, responsibility and service to their community. Students have access to Bronze, Silver or Gold Awards that escalate in commitment, duration and expectation.

Available to: Secondary students aged over 14 years.

When does it take place: The award must be completed predominantly outside of school time, usually during one weekend per term.

Football

Available to: Primary (Friday Afternoon Sport) and Secondary students.

Training:
Primary: Training for Friday Afternoon Sport takes place after school on Thursday鈥檚.

Secondary: Teams will train once or twice per week after school during Term 2 (boys) or Term 3 (girls).

Competitions:
Primary (Friday Afternoon Sport): Primary Inter-School football is played from February to May.

Secondary: Students have the opportunity to represent the School in Rockhampton District boys and girls Inter-School competitions. Secondary school boys can compete in the Rockhampton District Secondary Schools competition as well as the Bill Turner Cup (Under-15s). Both competitions are played during Terms 2 and 3. The girls play in the Inter-School competition which is held in Term 3.

Futsal

Available to: Secondary students only.

Training: Teams will train once per week after school.

Competitions: The boys鈥 Rockhampton District Secondary Sport Competition takes place in Term 1 and the girls compete in Term 4.

Golf

Available to: Primary and Secondary students.

Practice: This social game is played on Monday afternoons in Terms 2 and 3 at the Rockhampton Golf Club.

Competitions: Golfers can compete locally in the district competitions if they are a member of an affiliated golf club in Central Queensland. Golfers can nominate for the Capricornia 19 Years & Under team if they have a recognised handicap. Two Inter-School competitions are held each year.

Hockey

Available to: Year 5 & 6 students only as a Friday Afternoon Sport option.

Training: Training for Friday Afternoon Sport takes place after school on Thursday鈥檚.

Games: Hockey can be played by Year 5 & 6 students as a Friday Afternoon Sport from May to August.

Hospitality

Students play a key role in the running of several formal functions throughout the school year. Students can volunteer to be involved in setting up for functions, serving and clearing foods and/or beverages, as well as, clearing away after a function. The programme helps participants develop skills which they can use later in life or in employment.

Available to: Secondary students only.

Maths Team Challenge

Maths Teams Challenge is a competition that gives students the opportunity to tackle a variety of engaging mathematical activities while developing teamwork and communication skills. Students compete in teams of five from each year level. In 2021, K频道短视频 teams were crowned Champions of Years 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 and 12 at the Inter-School Competition.

Available to: Primary (Years 5 & 6 only) and Secondary students.

Training: Students train once per week after school in lead up to Competition.

Competitions: Teams compete against local schools at the Rockhampton QMAT Maths Teams Challenge Competition in April.

Mooting

Mooting is a legal argument designed to teach and test a range of intellectual and practical skills, and to give students an insight into the operation of the legal system. Moots simulate as closely as possible the operation of a real court.

Available to: Year 11 and 12 students only.

Training: Teams train for two sessions per week during Terms 1 and 2.

Competitions: Teams compete at the Bond University National High School Mooting Competition in May.

Music

K频道短视频 conducts an extensive music programme comprised of instrumental and vocal tuition and performances.

Available to: Primary and Secondary students.

Rehearsals: Ensembles meet weekly outside school hours under the guidance of expert staff to rehearse and prepare for performances. Individual tuition is also available.

Performances: K频道短视频 ensembles perform at events such as the Rockhampton Eisteddfod, the Anzac Day March, School Formal Assemblies, Grammarians鈥 Recital Series concerts, the Secondary Musical, the K频道短视频 Music Festival and Primary and Secondary Speech Nights.

Musical

The Primary and Secondary Musicals are a highlight on the School calendar. These professional productions perform to sell-out crowds at Rockhampton鈥檚 Pilbeam Theatre.

Available to: Primary (Years 5 & 6 only) and Secondary students.

Rehearsals: Both Primary and Secondary musical students rehearse for several months in the lead up to performances. Rehearsals take place after school and on weekends.

Performances: The K频道短视频 Secondary Musical is performed annually around August. The K频道短视频 Primary Musical is a biennial production.

Netball

The First VII won the Open A Schoolgirls competition in 2023.

Available to: Primary and Secondary students.

Training:
Primary: Students who play in a team for the K频道短视频 Netball Club will train once per week in Terms 1, 2 & 3. Training for Friday Afternoon Sport takes place after school on Thursday鈥檚.

Secondary: Depending on level, teams will train once or twice per week in Terms 1, 2 & 3.

Competitions:
Primary (Club): Primary students can play for the K频道短视频 Netball Club in the Rockhampton Netball Association Competition in Terms 1, 2 & 3.

Primary (Friday Afternoon Sport): Year 5 & 6 students can play Inter-School netball for Friday Sport in Terms 2 and 3.

Secondary: The Rockhampton Netball Association (Club) competition is played on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday nights in Terms 1, 2 & 3. The Rockhampton District Secondary Schoolgirls Netball competition is played on Thursday afternoon鈥檚 in Term 2.

OptiMinds

The Opti-MINDS Challenge is an opportunity for all those with a passion for learning and problem solving to showcase their skills and talents in an exciting and vibrant way. Teams are required to work together on a Challenge for up to six weeks without assistance from anyone outside the team. Participants are encouraged to explore possibilities and experiment with ideas as they endeavour to produce their best possible solution.

Available to: Secondary students only.

Training: Teams are required to meet regularly for six weeks leading up to the Competition.

Competitions: Teams of 4 - 7 students will compete at the Rockhampton Regional Competition and teams that qualify will move on to the State Finals in Brisbane.

OzTag

Oz-Tag is a non-contact form of rugby league played by teams of 8. Players are 鈥榯agged鈥 instead of tackling as they aim to score tries.

Available to: Year 5 & 6 students only as a Friday Afternoon Sport option.

Training: Training for Friday Afternoon Sport takes place after school on Thursday鈥檚.

Competition: Oz Tag can be played by Year 5 & 6 students as a Friday Afternoon Sport in September and October.

Photography

The K频道短视频 Photography Club is for those students with an interest and passion for photography. Students in the club enjoy interacting and learning from the teachers and from each other, and learn how to take great photos. Students are encouraged to bring their own cameras, however the Club also has photo kits for students to share.

Available to: Secondary students only.

Practice: The Photography Club meets each week on Tuesday afternoons.

Public Speaking

Public Speaking at K频道短视频 includes both Debating and Oratory and is an activity that helps students to grow in confidence when speaking.

Available to: Secondary students only.

Training: Training and workshops for Debating and Oratory occur year-round.

Competitions: Oratory competitions take place throughout the year such as the Rostrum Voice of Youth Competition, Lions Youth of the Year and the annual K频道短视频 Oratory Competition. K频道短视频 debating teams compete at the Inter-School Debating Competition.

Robotics

Robotics is a popular educational activity for students at the School who have a passion for science and technology. Students compete in On Stage, Rescue and Soccer competitions.

Available to: Primary (Years 5 & 6 only) and Secondary students.

Practice:
Primary 鈥 Practice takes place on Wednesday afternoons in Terms 1, 2 & 3.

Secondary 鈥 Practice takes place on Monday afternoons in Terms 2 and 3.

Competitions: Primary and Secondary students compete at the Regional RoboCup Junior Competition in Term 3.

Rowing

K频道短视频 has a proud history of Rowing success. In 2021, K频道短视频 Rowers took home several medals from the National Championships in Tasmania. K频道短视频 is proud to partner with Rowing Queensland.

Available to: Secondary students only.

Training: Training takes place both before and after school and on Saturday morning鈥檚, depending on age group and level.

搁别驳补迟迟补鈥檚: Regatta鈥檚 take place year round. Many of these regatta鈥檚 are held outside Rockhampton. The 鈥楥ome and Try鈥 Rowing Programme is held in Term 1.

Rugby League

Available to: Primary (Friday Afternoon Sport) and Secondary students.

Training:
Primary: Training for Friday Afternoon Sport takes place after school on Thursday鈥檚.

Secondary: Depending on age and level, teams will train once or twice per week in Term 2 (girls and Open Boys) or Term 3 (boys).

Competitions:
Primary (Friday Afternoon Sport): Year 5 & 6 students can play Inter-School rugby league for Friday Sport in Terms 2 and 3.

Secondary: Girls compete in the Rockhampton District Secondary Schoolgirls Rugby League competition in Term 2. The boys鈥 competition takes place in Term 3. The First XIII compete in Cowboys Cup and Aaron Payne Cup in Term 2 and Confraternity Cup in the June/July holidays.

Rugby Union

K频道短视频 boasts a rich and esteemed heritage with Rugby Union. We are a proud partner of the Melbourne Rebels.

Available to: Secondary students only (boys and girls).

Training: Depending on age and level, teams will train once or twice per week in Term 1.

Competitions: The Inter-School competition is held in Term 1 (boys and girls). The First XV compete at Ballymore Cup in the April school holidays.

Softball

Available to: Year 5 & 6 students only (Friday Afternoon Sport).

Training: Training for Friday Afternoon Sport takes place after school on Thursday鈥檚.

Games: Softball/Teeball can be played as a Friday Afternoon Sport from February to May.

Swimming

Available to: Primary and Secondary students.

Training: Swimming training takes place in Terms 1 & 4.

Carnivals: The K频道短视频 Secondary Inter-House Swimming Carnival is held in Term 1. Successful students then have the opportunity to represent the Capricornia Region at State Championships. The K频道短视频 Primary Inter-House Swimming Carnival is held in Term 4.

Through a strong relationship with K频道短视频, Caribeae Swimming Academy also conduct learn-to-swim classes and squad training at the K频道短视频 pool.

Tennis

Available to: Primary (Friday Afternoon Sport) and Secondary students.

Training: Training takes place throughout the year. The School tennis courts are available at specific times for students to practice.

Competitions:
Primary (Friday Afternoon Sport): Year 5 & 6 students can play tennis from May to August.

Secondary: An inter-school competition is held in Term 2 and the School Championships are played in Term 3.

Touch Football

Available to: Primary and Secondary students.

Training: Teams will usually train once per week after school.

Competitions:
Primary: Primary School teams play in the Rockhampton Touch Association on Saturday mornings.

Secondary: The School competes in the Rockhampton Touch Association competition on either Monday, Wednesday or Friday nights. The All Schools Touch Championships is held in Brisbane in Term 4.

Volleyball

Available to: Secondary students only.

Training: Teams will train once per week in Term 4.

Competitions: The boys and girls inter-school Secondary competitions are held in Term 4.

Waterpolo

Available to: Secondary students only.

Training: Depending on age and level, teams train once or twice per week in Terms 1 and 4.

Competitions: K频道短视频 teams play in Boys, Girls and Mixed divisions in the Rockhampton Water Polo Associations鈥 Inter-School Competition. Games are played at the K频道短视频 swimming pool on Monday afternoons/evenings in Terms 1 and 4. Students can also compete for their houses in the annual Inter-House Waterpolo Competition in Term 1.
