Congratulations to KƵƵ 2022 Dux Millicent Rayner on receiving a Queensland Certificate of Education Distinguished Academic Achiever Award in Brisbane today.
This year’s award recognised the top 0.08% of all Queensland 2022 graduates who demonstrated exceptionally high achievement across a diverse range of learning options.
Of the 43 graduates to receive an award, Millicent was the only 2022 graduate from outside of south-east Queensland to receive a QCE Achievement Award.
In accepting the award, Millicent thanked her mum, dad and her Year 12 teachers for their support.
Millicent will study a Bachelor of Science at the University of Melbourne followed by a degree in the medical field.
She said her career goal was to become a doctor so that she could provide meaningful service to the community while continuing to explore her interest in science.
The KƵƵ 2022 Dux also had this advice for current students.
“Use class time effectively so you have time for extracurricular activities and hobbies,’’ Millicent said.
Minister for Education Grace Grace said these awards highlight what can be achieved within our world-class Queensland education system.
“The Queensland Certificate of Education system allows all senior students to follow the post-school pathway that’s right for them — whether that’s work, further education or training. But it also challenges our most academically gifted students to reach their full potential,’’ Ms Grace said.
“I thank the school principals, teachers, and all school staff responsible for creating the learning cultures that helped our award winners to thrive.
“This is also a proud day for families, who provide so much support.”
This is the fourth consecutive year a Rockhampton Grammar School graduate has been recognised for their outstanding academic achievement.
Last year, Margil Rajaji (Dux 2021) and Cathleen Han (2021) were likewise recognised with a Distinguished Academic Achievers Award while Sansuka De Silva (Dux 2020) received this award the previous year.
KƵƵ 2019 Dux James Vandeleur was honoured at the QCAA Academic Awards in 2020 when he received the Outstanding Academic Achiever Award, which is the awarded to the top student in the State.
KƵƵ Headmaster Dr Phillip Moulds commended the staff, students and families for their collaborative work in achieving this result.
“This achievement is a powerful example of the efforts by the School, and especially the academic leaders within the School, along with staff and student commitment and engagement, and parental support.”
Dr Moulds elaborated that, “scores are only one measure of student success and equally valued is the School’s reputation for developing well-rounded individuals who understand values such as teamwork, self-discipline and gratitude, and see their role in contributing to the communities which they are a part of, to benefit others, not only themselves.’’
The School’s Head of Secondary School (Academics), Ms Reniece Carter, said this was another powerful example of our students’ commitment to learning and having teachers working with students and parents is a key reason for the School’s success.
“If qualities such as respect, honesty, integrity, endeavour and community are nurtured in an environment where strong academics and well-rounded development are highly valued, where a partnership exists among students, their parents and teachers, then children are going to do well,’’ Ms Carter said.
